One of my favorite ways to pass a Sunday afternoon is by visiting the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Because we attend so frequently, Mister BS’s grandma pays for us to have a membership (she’s also a big supporter of the arts).
In addition to checking out the Roads of Arabia exhibit, we made a special trip to see all the Thomas Hart Benton’s.
Persephone | Thomas Hart Benton
Thomas Hart Benton was an American painter and muralist from Kansas City, Missouri—and also a friend of grandma’s family. She has a fantastic collection of his original art, but nothing quite like his larger-than-life paintings.
American Epic | Thomas Hart Benton
Minstrel Show | Thomas Hart Benton
Hollywood | Thomas Hart Benton
The Sun Treader | Thomas Hart Benton
Of course, no trip to The Nelson-Atkins is complete without a walk through the sculpture garden and a picture with the iconic shuttlecocks.
For a Sunday afternoon trip to the museum, it’s important to wear comfortable shoes and layers. Even if it’s warm outside, the galleries will be cool.
The Roads of Arabia exhibit is at the Nelson through July, and they also have a daguerreotype exhibit I want to check out. We’re also looking forward to the Young Friends of the Art White Party in the Glass Labyrinth later this summer!
