I’m in the process of curating all new furniture for my empty apartment, and I’m not looking to drop a ton of cash to do it (moving is already so expensive, not to mention the high rent in California!). So I’ve been stalking the internet looking for copycat versions of my favorite pieces so I’m not busting the bank.
Of course, there are some investment pieces that I’m willing to pay more for, but for the most part, I’m not into heirloom quality furniture, especially when I may be moving again in a few years.
These are the budget versions of my favorite pieces I’m currently coveting.
I’m in the process of shopping for furniture for my living room, and want a mix of midcentury modern design with a few industrial details and a splash of bright color to coordinate with my grey sofa. What I need most is a credenza with some storage, a comfy chair, and a bar cart.
STEAL: inMod Funky Chest ($159 – on sale)
SPLURGE: Dot & Bo Paradigm Credenza ($958 – on sale)
I love a statement piece of furniture in bold colors, and I fell in love with the credenza on the top right, but it was way out of my price range, so I was thrilled when I came across the funky midcentury modern design chest with a similar shape and style.
SPLURGE: Crate & Barrel Cooper Armless Leather Chair ($1799)
STEAL: Saddle Brown Pillow Lounge Chair ($199)
I want a leather chair that doesn’t break the bank or take up a lot of space, and like the armless style. While the Crate & Barrel version comes in a lot of different colors, I like the steal version from Overstock even better. The hairpin details on the legs are a great example of midcentury modern design, and the color of the leather is a rich, warm caramel. And it’s such a good deal, I can grab this pouf from World Market for an ottoman to add a touch of boho to the room.
STEAL: Target Threshold Bar Cart ($129)
SPLURGE: West Elm Terrace Bar Cart ($399)
I’m dying for a bar cart, and prefer a simple gold style. The version from Target is less than half the cost of the West Elm version, and virtually indistinguishable!
Any tips on great places to get good deals on furniture?
