The weather on California’s Central Coast is not very autumnal. We had the hottest week ever in September, and besides a couple of chilly, overcast mornings with a hint of crisp air, the weather isn’t calling for cozy sweaters or tall boots yet.
Still, I need to work some more professional workwear into my closet that is more seasonally appropriate. I have a few dresses that work for most of the year, but the majority of the clothes I brought when I moved are very summery.
Of course, finding plus size work outfits is tough! There are not very many options out there for the average American woman who is a size 16 or above.
In building my fall wardrobe in California style, I’ve been looking for pieces that can work throughout the year. Instead of getting a lot of deep, warm colors like mustard and browns and hunter greens to trade for the bright pinks and teals of my summer wardrobe, I’m going for neutral black and white.
Black and White Plus Size Dresses in Classy Prints
This black and white windowpane jersey dress is on its way into my closet. It’s going to be perfect for this fall and beyond! I am looking forward to pairing it with sweaters and jean jackets, flats and boots, and adding splashes of color with accessories. There are so many options for styling it.
I also picked up this Vince Camuto palm tree print dress I’ve been eyeing for several weeks. The palm leaves are so California, but I feel that the black and white color palette is appropriate for autumn, too. It will be really easy to dress up for work or down for a weekend out and about.
Building a Versatile Wardrobe with Coordinating Black and White Separates
I’m debating between this Michael Kors printed tie neck sleeveless top and the solid colors available from Vince Camuto. They would be great with slacks or skirts, and I have very few separates currently in my wardrobe. It’s nice to have some mix and match options rather than just wearing dresses every day. I feel like they make your wardrobe stretch further.
Speaking of separates, this houndstooth skirt and black trimmed blouse would be a perfect work outfit.I’m interested in trying out this online plus-sized company Eloquii, even though I’m always nervous about trying a new clothing line. I usually stick to shopping brands I know and trust from places like Nordstrom’s or Land’s End, or getting basics from Old Navy or trying my luck on the racks at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s. But I feel like when they don’t have what I’m looking for, I’m out of ideas. Clearly I need to expand my options.
Black and white is so effortlessly chic. It’s frustrating that the majority of plus size clothes are available in obnoxious, ugly prints, so I was so excited to find these classy black and white options for plus size work outfits.
Where is your go-to places for shopping? I love finding new places to find quality and affordable clothes.
