One of the perks of living on California’s Central Coast is having wine country in our backyard. I’m definitely looking forward to exploring all of the local wineries. Mister BS and I took the opportunity to try out a lot of area wineries and breweries at the Ojai Wine Festival.
We had the chance to sample wine from a number of vineyards and wineries while enjoying a picnic lunch overlooking Lake Casitas. It’s adjacent to a camping area, and the view was really extraordinary. Lake Casitas is a really beautiful setting, and it was a bright, sunny day. Even though we’re further from the ocean, it didn’t get too hot for a weekend in June. I’d love to return when it’s less crowded and more serene, just for a relaxing walk and picnic lunch.
The trees provided ample shade, and the though it was very busy, there were plenty of tents and you never had to wait in line too long. Now having experienced a wine festival, I do think I’d prefer the more traditional tasting tours, if only so I could be more deliberate about what I sampled, and really get to know the wines.
It was great to get to try several wines at Bonterra, which doesn’t offer tastings. I started picking up their Chardonnay at Trader Joe’s, and it’s become a favorite. They had more to sample at the festival, and I really enjoyed their selection. They taste great, are really reasonably priced, and have environmentally friendly and organic growing practices. I’m considering joining their wine club!
Still, Isn’t Mister BS just adorable? He’s sporting his new plaid linen Polo Ralph Lauren shirt. He really enjoyed the area breweries, too — we’re going to have to make a trip to a few of them.
I’m wearing my favorite new navy ikat print dress. It’s a true wrap dress, and while it was the first of my Tart dresses, it certainly won’t be the last! I love the cut out details on the shoulders and the high quality fabric. I can dress it up for work or keep it casual for the weekend with a big sun hat — definitely a must need accessories on these bright, sunny California days!
A camping trip at Lake Casitas is definitely on the list for our weekend excursions. We’re really looking forward to exploring the area and becoming familiar with all the outdoors of California have to offer.
