I’m being deliberate about wardrobe shopping now, and have been actively trying to build a cohesive style that works for my life—on a budget. These wardrobe refresh posts are a way to to document my experience as well as share shopping hacks. Hope you find them interesting or helpful!
Dresses, dresses, dresses. They’re in constant rotation for my work wardrobe, and I needed a few new ones, so I turned to Nordstrom Rack. This place is a godsend. I can’t believe I wasn’t shopping there before? I’ve scored some seriously awesome dresses for a fraction of the full price cost recently.
I’ve been wearing this navy mock turtleneck windowpane dress practically once a week since I got it, and I always get a ton of compliments on it. Now it’s on sale for just $25! It’s effortless, and I love the modest neckline. It looks cute with my copper flats or my white slip-on vans for a more casual look.
This wrap dress has been in serious rotation as well. I love that it’s great for work or the weekend. I recently wore it to a picnic at the Ojai Wine Festival. It’s almost sold out in the ikat print, but Nordstrom Rack has it in two other prints that are equally adorable.
Tart is quickly becoming one of my favorite brands. I also ordered this Three-quarter length sleeve dress in navy with coral accents, and it looks so cute with my coral Calvin Klein lace up flats.
I actually ended up ordering it from Amazon, because I have the Amazon Assistant for Chrome installed in my browser. I picked the dress up for $26. It’s back to full price now, but that doesn’t mean it won’t drop in the future.
I never realized that you could get such great deals on Amazon for clothes, as I was used to only shopping for household goods and gadgets on the site, but sometimes prices inexplicably drop and you can score a fabulous deal. I keep a wishlist, and every once in a while I’ll check and see if something is on deep discount.
It works for shoes, too! The coral flats I got from Nordstrom Rack are now sold out, but you can get them for $25 in many sizes from Amazon.
I’ve also got my eye on this light blue drop waist dress. Its so fun and flirty, but with a cardigan or blazer, I still think I could pull it off for work. It comes in a floral print as well.
I’m on the hunt for more fun, printed tops I can dress up for work or wear with shorts for the weekend. Speaking of shorts, I am desperately in need of some jean shorts and perhaps a white pair, but even though I tried on about a million when I was in Chicago last week, and have tried several pairs I’ve ordered online, the perfect pair eludes me.
My first box I got these great Kut from the Kloth light wash toothpick jeans that I’m obsessed with, even though I never would have picked them out for myself. In the second fix, I ended up keeping a sleeveless blouse with cobalt flowers, even though I probably wouldn’t have purchased it from a store (I just didn’t want to lose my $20 styling fee.)
I’m hoping as time goes on, I love everything and can keep all five items in order to get a discount. All those people who make their style look effortlessly cool and put together are fooling us. Developing a cohesive, signature wardrobe means making deliberate choices, but I’m having fun trying to dress better.
